Noteworthy sites to visit in the Calvados region of Normandy

The Calvados department of Normandy offers an excellent choice of major events that should not be missed, such as our festivals (American Film Festival), shows, as well as numerous events that are both enjoyable and useful. Take advantage of the beautiful Norman countryside and enjoy nature with hikes or horseback riding. Don’t miss the many regional products (Camembert cheese, butter and the famous apple-based drinks) that make Normandy well known for its gastronomy.

D-Day landing beaches (Invasion of Normandy, Pointe du Hoc, Port en Bessin, American Cemetery)

These are the famous sites connected to the unforgettable events of June 6, 1944.
The D-Day landing was spread out over 5 beaches, one of which was Omaha Beach, as part of Operation Neptune.

Seaside (Swimming and nautical activities)

With more than 120km (75mi) of coastline, you can enjoy the many beaches with your family by going for a walk or partaking nautical sports, or fishing from the beach, not to mention horseback riding…

Bayeux

Bayeux is known for its cathedral as well as its medieval festivals. Do not miss its well-known tapestry that retraces the conquest of William the Conqueror in England, which is registered as a piece of UNESCO heritage.
